What to Do When You Arrive at Casablanca Airport

Your plane has just landed at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca — the first step of your trip to Morocco. For travellers who do not yet know this airport, the first few minutes can feel a little confusing. This guide explains exactly what to do, in what order, to reach your destination without stress.

1. Follow "International Arrivals" Signs

On leaving the plane, corridors are well signposted in French, Arabic and English. Simply follow signs for "Arrivals" or "Baggage". If you have a connecting flight, separate signs will direct you to your next terminal.

2. Pass Through Passport Control

Have your passport ready before reaching the desks. Most European and Western nationals do not need a visa for a tourist stay under 90 days. Officers generally speak French. Have your accommodation address ready in case you are asked for it.

3. Collect Your Luggage

Find your flight number on the display screens to locate the correct carousel. Allow 15 to 30 minutes typically. Free trolleys are available. If you have a baggage issue, report it immediately at your airline desk before leaving the baggage area.

4. Pass Through Customs

For tourists with standard luggage, the green channel (nothing to declare) is the right route. If you are carrying goods above permitted allowances, use the red channel.

5. Withdraw Moroccan Dirhams

As soon as you are in the public hall, withdraw dirhams from an ATM. ATMs accept Visa and Mastercard and offer good exchange rates. Avoid airport currency exchange bureaux if you can — rates are less favourable. Have 500–1,000 DH in cash for your first few days.

6. Find Your Transport

If you booked a Welcomorocco private transfer, look for your name on a sign in the welcome area. Your driver is waiting and will take care of your luggage. If you did not pre-book:

• ONCF train: go down to level -1 of Terminal 1
• Official grand taxi: exit the terminal, official queue on the right
• Car hire: desks in the T1 arrivals hall

7. Buy a Local SIM If Needed

Mobile shops (Maroc Telecom, Orange, inwi) offer SIM cards with mobile data for around 30–50 DH. Useful for navigating the city and contacting your hotel or driver. Remember your passport — it is required for activation.

• Never follow anyone who offers you a taxi or service inside the terminal
• Keep your luggage under constant supervision
• If anything seems unusual, report it to uniformed security officers
